Lead Analytics Engineer
Ready to take analytics beyond dashboards? Join an international scale-up in Rotterdam where data, AI and business strategy come together. You’ll lead the analytics direction while staying hands-on with Snowflake, dbt, SQL and AI-powered analytics, building the models and semantic layer that connect the full customer lifecycle. Your work will directly influence decisions across Marketing, Sales, Product, Finance and Customer Success. If you combine technical depth with commercial thinking, a hands-on mentality and want to shape how a company uses data and, over time, AI, this could be your next challenge.

What will you do?
Our client is looking for a Lead Agentic Analytics Engineer to turn complex business questions into reliable data, meaningful insights and AI-powered analytics. In this hands-on role, you will lead the analytical direction of a two-person Data & Analytics team, translating business needs into trusted metrics, governed data models and analytics products that support decision-making across the organization. You have no direct reports, but you own the analytical direction. You'll start with a 30-60-90 day plan, shaped together with the VP of Business Operations.
The data foundation is largely established, with information from platforms such as HubSpot and the learning management system flowing into Snowflake. The next step is to build a governed semantic layer that makes reliable data accessible through Power BI, Metabase and AI-enabled tools. You will work alongside the Senior Data Engineer, reporting to the VP of Business Operations, with functional ownership of analytical architecture, metric definitions, dbt standards and technical priorities. While setting the direction, you will remain hands-on, personally building critical data models and reviewing implementations.
A key part of your role is connecting the entire customer lifecycle into one consistent analytical framework, from marketing acquisition and sales conversion to revenue, product adoption, retention and customer lifetime value. You will collaborate with Marketing, Sales, Customer Success, Product and Finance to understand their business questions, agree on metric definitions and ensure that commercial and financial reporting is consistent, documented and trusted.
Your typical week combines hands-on analytics engineering with stakeholder collaboration, technical leadership and decision support. You might build a dbt model connecting customer, marketing and revenue data, work with Finance to reconcile conflicting metrics, improve an executive dashboard or prioritize the next phase of the analytics roadmap. Approximately half your time will remain focused on building, reviewing and investigating data, with the remainder dedicated to discovery, functional leadership and helping the business make better decisions.
Your main responsibilities include:
- Own the Data & Analytics roadmap, balancing immediate business needs with long-term improvements to data architecture and governance.
- Set the dbt standards and design, build, test and document the most critical data models yourself using SQL, dbt and Snowflake.
- Translate business questions from Marketing, Sales, Customer Success, Product and Finance into governed semantic models and reusable analytical products.
- Establish consistent full-funnel metrics, from marketing attribution and pipeline conversion to revenue, retention, product usage and lifetime value.
- Own the quality of executive dashboards and self-service analytics in Power BI and Metabase, and build the foundations for agentic analytics through natural-language queries.
- Guide the Senior Data Engineer through design and code reviews, align on pipeline and warehouse requirements, and resolve conflicting numbers at the source.
Who are you?
- 5+ years of experience in analytics engineering, BI, data engineering or business-facing analytics, with recent hands-on experience building analytical solutions and leading work beyond your own delivery.
- Strong experience designing semantic layers or governed data models end-to-end, from business discovery and metric definition through production and adoption.
- Expert SQL and data modeling skills, with solid production experience in dbt and Snowflake or a comparable data warehouse, plus experience with a modern BI platform.
- Experience in B2B SaaS, subscription, fintech or marketplace businesses, connecting marketing, sales, revenue, retention and product usage.
- Good financial and commercial understanding, including concepts such as ARR, NRR, bookings, revenue and unit economics.
- Able to communicate complex analytical concepts in plain language, challenge senior stakeholders constructively and build trust in the numbers.
- Comfortable setting analytical direction, driving architecture and code reviews, and mentoring experienced colleagues without relying on formal authority.
- Experienced in using AI tools to improve productivity and analytics development, while maintaining high standards for accuracy, quality and governance.
- English is the working language; Dutch is not required.
It's an extra plus if you have experience in RevOps, Growth, FP&A, Product Analytics or Commercial Analytics, preferably within a fast-growing scale-up. Familiarity with HubSpot, marketing attribution, subscription or billing data, LMS or product-usage data, or building semantic layers for AI-powered and conversational analytics is also a plus.
What can you expect?
- A high-impact functional leadership role with real ownership of the client's analytics foundation and semantic layer, with the potential to grow into a team lead role as the data team expands.
- A competitive salary between €5,000 and €7,700 gross per month for 40 hours, depending on your experience and background.
- Flexible working hours and hybrid working (at least two office days per week), with the option to work abroad for up to 20 days per year.
- 26 holidays, increasing by one day for each of your first five years, plus four Trust Days.
- A pension plan, mental health support through OpenUp and a company bike plan.
- The flexibility to exchange two public holidays for days of your choice.
- An NS Business Card covering public transport, plus a MacBook and the equipment you need.
- We support your growth with a €1,000 learning budget, learning hours, access to client learning programs, books and coaching.
- A young, informal culture with a flat hierarchy, two company parties a year and quarterly wrap-ups.
- Chef-prepared lunches and access to an office gym.
